The Open Orchestra Project
The creative team at Melnik Resources worked with McGill, Schulich School of Music, Centre for Inter-disciplinary Research in Music, Media and Technology (CIRMMT), John Roston, Video and Project Coordinator, Wieslaw Woszczyk, Audio, and Jeremy Cooperstock, Software and Networking, to design, test, and build the height adjustable hardware which would position the equipment for the "High Fidelity Immersive Music Simulator"
"This project will create a platform that uses high definition panoramic video and surround sound to provide individual musicians with the very realistic experience of playing in an orchestra. The expected result is an exciting new method of training musicians and allowing them to expand their repertoire."1
The custom electric lift workstations were designed for standing and sitting positions which allowed the monitors, touchscreen and computer to move together. 2
"Open Orchestra serves as the musical equivalent of an aircraft simulator, providing the musician the experience of playing with an orchestra."3
